Scientists develop high-performance environmentally friendly supercapacitors suitable for wearable electronic devices

According to foreign media reports, researchers from Skoltech, Russia, Aalto University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have designed a high-performance, environmentally friendly, and scalable Supercapacitor is expected to be used in wearable electronic products.

Supercapacitors have high power density, high charge-discharge rate, long cycle life and are cost-effective. It is a promising power supply for mobile and wearable electronic devices, electric vehicles and other products. However, making supercapacitors combine high energy density, safety, and eco-friendliness to make it suitable for small devices is quite challenging.

Tanja Kallio, co-author of the research paper and professor of Aalto University, said: "Usually, supercapacitors use organic solvents to increase energy density, but such solvents are dangerous and not environmentally friendly. Compared with water-based electrolytes with higher conductivity, It will also reduce the power density."

In previous research, scientists successfully improved the volumetric capacitance performance, high energy density and power density of the supercapacitor prototype. Albert Nasibulin, a professor at the Skolkovo Institute of Technology, said: "We built a prototype of a supercapacitor. After 1000 stretching cycles, the performance has not changed when the stretching rate is less than 50%. In order to ensure lower costs and For better environmental benefits, we use an electrolyte based on sodium chloride (NaCl).
